Survival & exploration
Before entering the Shroud, decide what you want from the run and where you will turn back. A single useful objective is enough. If the route changes or supplies run low, return along ground you already recognize instead of adding another stop.
Before you enter
- Choose a specific objective. A quest item, a marked landmark, or a short scouting loop is enough. Avoid combining several distant goals into one first trip.
- Bring a survival potion if you have one. The official tips page says Shroud expedition Potions extend the time you can spend in the fog.
- Pack food for your role. Food gives temporary bonuses such as health, stamina, or mana-related benefits. Use what supports your current build rather than saving every meal forever.
- Carry a ranged answer. Official guidance specifically recommends bows or staves because some Shroud enemies fly and are awkward to hit with melee.
- Equip traversal gear and check the route in. Gliders and grappling hooks need to be equipped. Remember the way you entered so you have a known exit when the timer becomes uncomfortable.
Use a three-part route
- Entry: identify the safest approach and the closest path back to clear air. Avoid sprinting past every landmark if you do not yet know the terrain.
- Objective: complete the quest interaction or loot the target area first. Fight only when an enemy blocks the task or you need to make a route safe.
- Exit: leave while you still have options. The official tips mention Shroud time refills at points of interest and safe pockets such as caves or elevated routes, but treat these as bonuses rather than the plan.
When you discover a reliable path, add a named custom map marker. The 1.0 update allows custom markers and chests to be named freely. A simple naming convention—“exit,” “ore,” “quest,” or “safe pocket”—makes a personal map much more useful than a cluster of identical pins.
When the run goes wrong
If you are low on healing, disoriented, or carrying something important, stop extending the route. Move back toward the landmark you already know. Do not let a nearly completed side objective turn into a risky detour. If a flying enemy is keeping you pinned, create space and switch to your ranged tool instead of burning stamina on repeated melee swings.
Practical rule: plan to leave before your Shroud time or healing is nearly gone. That buffer covers a wrong turn, a blocked path, or one fight that takes longer than expected.
On an early attempt, pick a landmark you can recognize from more than one direction. If the path back stops making sense, return to that landmark first and reset your bearings before choosing another objective.
Pick one landmark you can recognize from different directions, such as a cave mouth or a distinct ridge. If combat pushes you away from the planned path, pause and reorient before spending the rest of the run chasing lost time.
