Combat · Version-sensitive
Most fights become easier once you can name what is going wrong. Are you being caught at range, running out of stamina, or taking too long to recover? Fix that one weakness first; a loadout does not need to answer every enemy equally well.
In Enshrouded, combat usually improves once you can name what is going wrong. Use this guide to check range, stamina, or recovery before changing your whole loadout. Fix one weakness, then try the revised setup in a low-risk fight before relying on it against a boss.
Three simple loadout roles
| Role | Loadout idea | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Melee front line | Primary melee weapon, block/parry option, ranged backup, healing | Do not chase through a group if you lose sight of the rest of the room |
| Ranger / ranged support | Bow with suitable arrows, a close-range fallback, mobility and recovery | Keep ammunition stocked and reposition when enemies close distance |
| Mage / control | Staff or wand, spells for both single targets and groups, mana support | Carry a fallback for interruption or enemies that pressure your casting space |
What changed for mages in 1.0
Keen Games says 1.0 added nine new spell types, more tiers for existing spells, eternal versions of every spell, and active skeleton summons. Wands gained heavy attacks, and a free-aim option was added in gameplay settings. Those changes make it worth testing your old mage setup again rather than assuming an Early Access build is still optimal. The skill tree also resets when an old save first loads 1.0.
A repeatable boss approach
- Scout the arena before committing. Locate clear ground, escape space, and any route back to the fight if your party is defeated.
- Start with a defensive read. Learn the boss’s telegraph and recovery window before spending every consumable.
- Change damage type or range when the opening appears. If melee cannot reach a target safely, use a ranged option. If a boss exposes a weak point or enters a vulnerable phase, prioritize that window.
- After a wipe, adjust one thing. Swap a weapon, food buff, skill, or approach—do not rebuild everything at once.
For group play, agree on who is drawing attention, who is dealing ranged damage, and when to revive. For solo play, favor a loadout that can answer both close and distant threats. If a particular boss or weapon has recently changed, check the official patch notes before trusting an older tier list.
Build advice is not patch-proof. Keep a “tested on” date and game version next to any recommended skill allocation or weapon ranking. A guide that explains its trade-offs ages better than an unsupported “best build” label.
