A Root hunt is easier to plan when it fits into a nearby trip. Mark the fast-travel point, check the route and your current loadout, then choose whether the reward solves a real need in your skill tree before spending time on the detour.

Plan the hunt

  1. Use the nearest clue or map reveal. Obelisks and exploration can expose relevant points of interest; follow those signals before consulting an external map.
  2. Check the approach and exit. Mark a return route, note the Shroud boundary, and avoid entering with a nearly depleted timer or no ranged option.
  3. Clear the immediate threat deliberately. Identify ranged enemies and escape space first, then focus on the target objective. Do not spend healing on distant enemies that do not affect the fight.
  4. Claim the reward and verify the skill point. Return to the skill tree so you can spend it on a deliberate upgrade rather than forgetting it during a longer run.
  5. Chain only nearby objectives. If another revealed point is safely close, continue; otherwise leave with the reward already secured.

Spend points to solve a real problem

Before investing, name the thing your character needs: more survivability, reliable reach, mobility, or stronger support for the weapon you actually use. In co-op, coordinate broad roles so the party does not all depend on the same narrow answer. Keep a note of the build’s purpose; if your playstyle changes, revisit the tree and adjust rather than following a copied build without context.

Version note: We avoid quoting a total target count or giving fixed coordinates here. Community maps can report different totals, and the in-game clue system is the safest guide for your world and patch.

Mark each Root after the fight so your next trip starts with a useful location instead of a guess.
