Back to your save · Launch update changes
Before loading an old save for a long session, spend a few minutes checking the skill tree, equipment, journal, and crafting stations. The update changed parts of early progression, so your old routine may need a small reset even if you keep the same world.
First login priorities
- Review the skill tree. The official launch notes say the tree resets the first time an Early Access save loads after the update. Spend the returned points before a dangerous expedition.
- Check your action bar and equipment. Confirm weapons, healing, glider, and grappling hook are equipped in the slots you expect.
- Re-read active quests. Main and side quests are now distinguished in the journal; use that to choose the progression path you want.
- Inspect station recipes and item details. Early recipes were reworked and item details include acquisition hints for some resources. Do not rely on an old shopping list without checking.
- Review your Flame and altar network. The full map and new Flame progression open further late-game options, including the route toward Cinder’s Cradle.
Should you restart?
Continue if you value your existing builds, exploration, or co-op world. Consider a fresh world if you want the reworked first hours, revised early recipes, and adjusted early chests and camps in their intended order. Keen Games supports existing saves and explicitly presents a fresh start as a recommendation for experiencing those changes, not a requirement.
Practical recommendation: keep the old world for construction and shared progress, and create a separate fresh world if you want to compare the new opening without risking your established save.
Use the checklist as a quick guide, not a reason to restart.
