Quests, survivors & crafting
When several markers compete for your attention, let the main story set the direction and use side objectives to fill in useful detours. After every major unlock, check what changed at home before starting another long gathering run.
A progression loop that avoids wasted gathering
- Read the objective and note the named place or item. The 1.0 changelog added resource acquisition hints in item details for several resources, so check the details panel before searching the whole map.
- Complete the nearest relevant objective. Do not farm every resource node you pass. Gather enough for the recipe or quest you are actively pursuing, plus a small reserve of common materials.
- Return to base after a survivor or major quest unlock. Inspect the new station, its recipes, and any follow-up quest. This prevents you from carrying around materials that do not yet have a use.
- Upgrade the Flame when the game points you there. Flame advancement raises your capability and expands the number of Flame Altars you can place. Those altars can become strategic fast-travel points above the Shroud.
- Use side quests to fill gaps. If the main path leads into enemies that are too strong, take nearby exploration or survivor tasks, improve your equipment, and then return.
Survivors are more than quest markers
Think of rescued survivors as a growing workshop network. A new crafting specialist changes which gear, tools, or consumables you can make at home. After each rescue, talk to the survivor, inspect their station and recipe list, and check whether a new quest points toward the next useful tier. The goal is to let advancement unlock the next shopping list instead of guessing at it in advance.
Reaching the 1.0 endgame
The 1.0 update opens the full map, including Cinder’s Cradle in the north, and raises the player level cap to 50 and fully upgraded equipment to level 55. The official changelog says a new Flame Level is available before entering Cinder’s Cradle; it also adds two Hollow Halls, in Albaneve Summits and Veilwater Basin. Treat those as late-game targets, not a checklist you must rush through as a new character.
| If you are… | Do this next | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Unsure what to craft | Check the active quest and new survivor recipes | Connects materials to a current unlock |
| Underpowered for the main route | Take a nearby side quest, explore, and upgrade | Adds loot and advancement without a long detour |
| Lost while exploring | Use lore, towers, obelisks, and named map markers | These can reveal locations or make your own route legible |
| Returning for 1.0 | Reassign reset skill points and verify recipes | Prevents using an outdated build or Early Access guide |
For crafting progression, check each new recipe at home before choosing your next gathering stop.
