Crafting · Resource planning
Start a gathering run with a recipe or task in mind. Check how much you need, where the game points you, and whether a survivor or station unlock is still missing. That small check can save a long detour for materials you cannot use yet.
A practical resource loop
- Pick one unlock. Read the active quest or station recipe and write down only its missing ingredients.
- Inspect the item detail panel. If the game offers a hint about where a resource comes from, use it before searching online.
- Bundle the trip. If a needed material lies near a quest or map landmark, combine those tasks. Avoid a cross-map detour for a small reserve.
- Collect a modest buffer of common items. A small reserve reduces repeat trips; stop once you have the recipe and a practical margin.
- Return and craft immediately. Confirm the new item or station unlock solves the problem you set out to fix.
When an old guide disagrees
Check its publication date and whether it describes Early Access. Compare the exact recipe in your station, confirm whether a survivor or quest unlock is missing, and use the game’s item hint. If all three disagree with the guide, trust the current game and treat the old page as historical. Record the patch version when you share a corrected recipe with friends.
Rule of thumb: gather to unlock the next useful tool, not to fill every chest. Organized storage is helpful; stockpiles without a plan consume time and make it harder to find what you actually need.
